WASHINGTON, DC –President Barack Obama on Wednesday signed an executive order to provide “extreme caution” about the dangers of taking Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction, according to a news release from the Obama Center for Medicine in Washington.
“This is an act of extreme caution and will be taken only by members of the FDA,” the release said.
The order will “definitely include Viagra” in the prescription drug classification, the release said.
The order, which was signed by then-Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N. Y.) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D- Calif.), also is “a direct attack on the use of erectile dysfunction medications by the public healthcare system.”
